Diamond Education

Diamond Cut

  • Cut is the most important of the 4Cs because it has the greatest influence on a diamond’s sparkle.
  • Even if a diamond has a perfect clarity and colour grade, if it has a poor cut, it may appear dull.
  • When a diamond is cut with the proper proportions, light is returned out of the top of the diamond (which gemmologists refer to as the table). If it is cut too shallow, light leaks out of the bottom; too deep and it escapes out of the side.
  • To maximise your budget, choose the highest diamond cut grade your budget allows. We suggest a cut grade of Very Good or better.

Diamond Color

  • The second most important of the 4Cs is colour because it’s what the eye notices next after sparkle.
  • A diamond’s colour actually refers to its lack of colour. The less colour, the higher the colour grade.
  • To avoid a pale yellow colour, choose a diamond grade H or higher.
  • Azadi Jewellery offers only Colourless (grades D-F) to Near-Colourless (grades G-J) diamonds to assure that any natural colour present is typically undetectable to the naked eye.

Diamond Clarity

  • Most diamonds have tiny imperfections called inclusions.
  • The fewer and less visible the inclusions, the higher the clarity grade.
  • Diamond clarity is often the least important of the 4Cs because most inclusions are microscopic; they don’t affect the diamond’s beauty in a visible way.
  • To maximise your budget, consider an “Eye-Clean” diamond, graded VS1 or higher, in which inclusions are invisible to the naked eye.

Diamond Carat Weight

  • Carat is the most misunderstood of the 4Cs. It actually refers to a diamond’s weight, not its size.
  • Consider cut and carat together; a larger carat diamond with a poor cut grade can appear smaller than a smaller diamond with a higher cut grade.
  • To maximise your budget, “Buy Shy,” which means selecting a carat weight slightly below the whole and half carat marks. For example, instead of a 2.0-carat diamond, consider buying a 1.9-carat weight. This will save a considerable amount of money and the slight size difference will never be noticed.

Diamond Shape

At Azadi Jewellery, we apply the same high quality standards to all of our diamond shapes. We have an exceptional collection of traditional round diamonds and we also offer the finest non-round, or “fancy-shaped”, diamonds available. All of our certified diamonds are graded by the GIA or AGSL to have FL-SI2 clarity, D-J colour, and Ideal, Very Good, or Good cut. Azadi diamonds are specifically cut to achieve unmatched sparkle and light performance that commands the attention of every eye in the room.

Since all diamond shapes are very different, unique characteristics determine quality for each shape. If you have questions, feel free to contact us so that we can help you find the diamond that’s perfect for you.

Shape v/s Price

The shape is an important consideration when buying a diamond as it directly influences price. Round diamonds, the most popular diamond shape, tend to be priced higher than other shapes (referred to as fancy shapes) because of market demand, increased manufacturing costs, and their incredible brilliance.

Fancy shaped diamonds include all diamonds other than round. Azadi Jewellery offers nine different fancy shapes, including princess, emerald, Asscher, cushion, marquise, radiant, oval, pear, and heart.
